Do you always wear the same fragrance?
Are you too afraid to try another or maybe you don’t really know what to look for?
Choosing a new fragrance can be a daunting task so here is our guide to choosing a perfume that suits you.
Think about your skin: Try a variety of different perfumes and fragrances to know what suits your skin. A fragrance will always smell different on you to your friend so use the tester and see. Spray a little and leave it a few hours to see if it lasts and smells good to you. Don’t buy it straight away, give it time to settle.
Smell: Try to go for a perfume that contains fresh smells and makes you feel attractive and impressive. Have your best friend give her views on the perfume you are trying as sometimes a second nose can smell it better!
Perfume Categories: There are several categories of perfumes like woody perfume, fruit perfume, floral perfume, oceanic perfume, greens perfume and oriental perfume. You need to choose what suits you and your lifestyle.
Season or Event: It’s worth considering the season. For example you may want to wear a lighter fragrance in the summer. This also applies to events such as parties, a perfume for a club night may be more intense that one for your Aunties birthday party!
So you are ready to buy but now you are confused with EDT’s and EDP’s?
Quite simply there are 4 types of scent:
- Perfume: This contains the most fragrance and prices are high. A small amount goes a very long way as it is very intense.
- Eau de Parfum: This is not quite so strong but will last quite a while on your skin.
- Eau de Toilette: This is very popular. It is cheaper than the EDP as it is slightly weaker and not as long lasting.
- Eau de Cologne: This has the smallest concentration of fragrance. An EDC is the cheapest option, but will fade quickly.
Another way to help your scent last longer is to layer, use accessories that match your perfume to create an all over lingering smell (not too strong though!). There are often offers on the extras and things like body creams and lotions, shower gels and bubble bath can be picked up quite cheaply.
