Do you really look after your face?
Our face is always exposed to the elements so we should take really good care of it, everyday.
Here at GP we have come up with a few simple ideas to keep your skin fresh and young looking.
- Hydrate your skin: Drinks containing a lot of caffeine, such as coffee, tea or alcoholic drinks have a diuretic effect on your body (It encourages water loss). Drinking plenty of water helps keep you and your skin suitably moisturised.
- Protection from the Sun: If you live somewhere sunny then sun protection is a must. Use a sunscreen of at least (SPF) 15 to help protect your face from premature aging, age spots and wrinkling.
- Cleanse and Tone: It’s a good idea to get into the habit of using a cleanser and toner – especially if you wear make-up everyday. The toner should not be too harsh as this can strip vital oils from your skin and leave it very dry and prone to sensitivity.
- Night Creams: Use a vitamin-packed night cream as research indicates that the temperature of skin rises at night which allows nutrients to be better absorbed.
- Stop Smoking: We all know smoking is generally not good for you, or your skin. It starves your body of oxygen and essential blood.
- Apply Makeup Carefully: Makeup can make you look beautiful, but careful application is needed to prevent any damage to your skin.
- Watch your diet. Avoid yo-yo dieting. This is a contributing factor to premature wrinkling, over-stretched skin is baggier skin and not attractive. Eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidants such as vitamins A, B, C and E will help your skin.
- Skin care products: There are thousands of skin care products on the market. Find a good moisturizer to help in your quest to keep your skin healthy and firm.
- Keep your skin clean: Gently cleaning off the dirt of everyday life as soon as you can will help you maintain a great complexion.
- Alcohol. You should reduce your alcohol consumption as you get older as this can dehydrate your skin and steal vital nutrients from the skin causing facial blood vessels to dilate. If you’re not careful, these may dilate permanently, leading to red ‘spider veins’.
